Primitive Way from Lugo

The Camino Primitivo (Primitive Way) is the oldest pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. Its origin dates back to the discovery of the tomb of the Apostle James in the year 830. Following this event, King Alfonso II of Asturias, known as "el Casto - the Chaste", decided to walk from Oviedo to Compostela to venerate the remains of the Saint and becoming the first pilgrim in the Way of Saint James.


The Camino Primitivo from Lugo is a historic route of the Camino de Santiago, known for beauty of its nature and its connection with the pilgrimage's tradition.


Walking the Primitive Way from Lugo to Santiago de Compostela is a unique experience that combines history, nature and a deep spiritual meaning. Throughout this tour, you will discover impressive landscapes, small villages and a rich tradition.

  • 4 nights of accommodation in rural houses/hotels on a half-board basis (dinner and breakfast) during the Camino. 
  • 1 night of hotel accommodation in Lugo on a bed and breakfast basis.       
  • 1 night of hotel accommodation in Santiago de Compostela on a bed and breakfast basis.      
  • Transfer at the end of each stage to the rural house and back (when necessary).                       
  • Luggage transfer during the stages: 1 piece of luggage per person (max. 15kg/luggage).

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival to Lugo at your own.

Hotel accommodation in Lugo.

Day 2: Stage 1 “Lugo - Ferreira” (26,5 km).

After breakfast, beginning of the pilgrimage to Ferreira

Dinner and accommodation in Ferreira

Day 3: Stage 2 “Ferreira - Melide” (20 km).

After breakfast, continuation of the pilgrimage to Melide.

Dinner and accommodation in Melide.

Day 4: Stage 3 “Melide - Arzúa” (14 km).

After breakfast, continuation of the pilgrimage to Arzúa.

Dinner and accommodation in Arzúa.

Day 5: Stage 4 “Arzúa - O Empalme” (15 km).

After breakfast, continuation of the pilgrimage to O Pino

Dinner and accommodation in O Pino

Day 6: Stage 5 “O Empalme - Santiago de Compostela” (19 km).

After breakfast, beginning of the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.

Accommodation in Santiago de Compostela.

Day 7: Santiago de Compostela.

Breakfast and end of the program.

* Accommodations' double rooms are not guaranteed to have two beds. 

* Reservation requests must be made at least 14 days before the start of the pilgrimage.
